MIDTERM REVIEWS week of February
19th
Homeworks listing:
Please note: all homeworks
are executed on cardboard/panels size 12”x 12”
ADVICE: save your time- collect 7 or more boards and
prime them with gesso
Course starts on January 08
1- Due January 15 Find a colour photo/source and transform
it into a grayscale (print) & paint the B&W
image on 12” x 12” cardboard/panel
Bring photo in color + painting to the class.
Project 01 Due January 16
2- Due January 29 - Create grid composition and paint
squares (0.5” x o.5”) using the primaries
mixed with black & white (Pixilated image)
Bring the source image + painting to the class.
3- Due February 5 - make painting using the OPTICAL
MIXING (pointillist, hatched) Think of painting as PALETTE.
Mix colours using various techniques (line, dot, stroke,
shape, juxtaposition, overlap, etc). Think of inkjet
printer, raster and other optical mixing examples.
4- Due February 12 – make a painting with the
focus on SKIN TONE. Mix 5 or more colours. Show the
palette (color source) together with painting in the
class.
Project 02 Due February 26
5- Due March 5 - Painting made of limited color palette
(ACTIVE OR PASSIVE). Please choose the theme appropriate
to your palette. Show palette and painting.
MEMO: Make pigments/dye out of found materials (plants,
dirt, minerals, etc). Please make a palette with written
description & samples (swatches).
Project 03 Due March 12
6- Due March 19 - combine image and text in painting;
research & write the artistic statement- manifesto
(on the painting). Match words with color and mood of
the painting.
7- Due March 26 - combine painting with other media:
performance, photo-based, digital, video, etc. Test
and apply painting as an extension or description.
Last session ; Project 04 Due April 3
